Five money leaks hiding on your website

Most local businesses do not have a traffic problem. They have a leak problem. Five common ones, and how to spot them before they cost you a job.

You spend money to get someone to your website. An ad, a search, a referral who looks you up first. Then the site quietly loses them, and you never even know it happened. That is a money leak: a spot where interest goes in and nothing comes out.

Most owners try to fix it by buying more traffic. That is like turning the tap up on a bucket full of holes. Patch the holes first. Here are the five we see most often.

1. There is no obvious next step

A visitor should never have to hunt for what to do next. If your best action is buried under three paragraphs about your company history, you are losing the people who were ready to act. One clear button, repeated down the page, beats a clever layout every time.

2. Your phone number is text, not a link

Half your visitors are on a phone. If your number does not tap to call, you just asked a busy person to memorize ten digits and switch apps. Most will not bother. Make every phone number and email a real, tappable link.

3. Nobody answers after hours

Leads do not arrive on a schedule. Someone fills out your form at 9pm, hears nothing until morning, and by then they have called the next name on the list. If no one is catching those leads while you sleep, that is not a small leak. It is the main one.

4. You cannot tell which ads actually work

If you cannot say which ad, which page, or which search brought in your last five customers, you are flying blind. You end up spending more on the stuff that feels busy and less on the stuff that quietly pays. Tracking is not a nice-to-have. It is how you stop guessing.

5. The site looks like a version of you that no longer exists

This one is not about layout. It is about pride. If you wince a little before sending someone the link, they can feel it too. A site you are proud to show changes how you sell, because you start sending it on purpose instead of avoiding it.
